Investigation underway after shooting involving Charlottesville police officer

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – An investigation is underway after a Charlottesville police officer fired shots during a foot pursuit of a man wanted on a malicious wounding charge.

Officers received information that Daquan Hoffman, wanted by Albemarle County on a charge of malicious wounding, was in the area of the Downtown Mall. Officers located Hoffman, who immediately fled on foot.

During the foot pursuit, several shots were fired. Hoffman continued to flee. Police report the suspect does not appear to be struck by gunfire, and no officers were injured.

Chief Kochis requested that the Virginia State Police lead the investigation into the incident in coordination with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy…
