QLine Crash Lawsuit Raises Questions About Safety and Governmental Immunity

On Nov. 30, 2023, around 2 p.m., Garry Fitzpatrick was on his way to work in an Uber, traveling south on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit when a QLine train rear-ended the car, leaving him with multiple surgeries and more than $400,000 in medical bills.

During 2025 depositions for his lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court, a QLine official and the train operator admitted the accident could have been prevented.
