SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WKRG) – Weather alerts on our phones or weather radios have replaced some older warning methods, including some outdoor tornado sirens, but after our latest round of severe weather, some Spanish Fort residents are asking why those sirens aren’t used.

The Spanish Fort Kids’ Park is home to one of the several tornado alert systems across the city. Sirens like these were originally designed with a specific purpose.
“The weather sirens were an older technology that really let people know if they were outdoors to be aware,” Spanish Fort’s Mayor Brad Bass said.
