First Alert Weather Day Tuesday (6/23)

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – A day of beneficial soaking rain is likely today but severe storms are possible, especially on the South and East side of RVA.

Unlike yesterday (Monday) which featured an evening severe weather threat, today’s concern centers on the noon-4pm time frame.

11:14 AM Update: The National Weather Service says an issuance of a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is likely. Some areas in the South Eastern Viewing Area saw clearer skies allowing a heat up to strengthen severe thunderstorm chances.

Storms today could have damaging wind gusts, heavy rain that leads to localized flooding. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out mainly to the east and southeast of Richmond.

A Flood Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service from 1 pm until 10 pm for areas mostly east of I-95.

This computer model shows the peak severe threat, on the Southeast side of RVA.

By 5pm, we’re on the tail end of the rain with areas West of I-95 seeing clearing skies. This sets up to be a dry, clear and kind of cool evening with low humidity…
