Staten Island halal shop plans July reopening after flooding forced temporary closure

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Balloons from Shah’s Halal’s grand opening still hang on the door at 424 Forest Ave., a reminder of a celebration cut short. The West Brighton restaurant has been closed for over three weeks following flooding caused by severe rain at the end of May, just days after a formal grand opening, as the owner awaits completion of repairs.

“Shortly after our grand opening, the restaurant experienced flooding from the severe rain we had in May, which forced us to close,” said Ben Bifulco, adding that the focus has been on getting the space “fully repaired and ready to welcome guests back.”
