After split vote, Northborough Select Board chooses familiar face as fire chief

NORTHBOROUGH – Northborough’s new fire chief is someone familiar with the town.

On June 22, the Northborough Select Board voted, 3-2, to appoint Neal Aspesi as the town’s next fire chief, pending a background check and agreeing upon a contract. Aspesi has served as the town’s acting chief since the retirement of David Parenti, Northborough’s chief for the last 10 years. He previously served as deputy fire chief.

Aspesi, an Algonquin Regional High School graduate, beat out two other finalists: Franklin Battalion Chief Keith Darling, who received two votes, and West Boylston Chief Mark Sadowski. The application process included an interview and an assessment from a consulting firm…
