AUSTIN — The owner of a popular barbecue restaurant is picking up the pieces after a Friday morning kitchen fire devastated a commercial strip on Division Street.
Jay’s Backyard BBQ, 5604 W. Division St., is temporarily closed following the fire that broke out in the restaurant’s kitchen before causing significant damage to the business and neighboring stores. A fundraiser was launched for owner Jay Young as he looks to keep his employees on payroll and plot a comeback for his restaurant.
“I really put my heart into this place,” Young said Monday. “To see it go up in flames and just everything that I lost … this might be one of the hardest pills to swallow.”…
