There might not be a clearer indicator of how far the Nebraska Cornhuskers football program has fallen in the last couple of decades. EA Sports released the list of the 20 toughest places to play in EA Sports College Football 27, and the Huskers are not among the list. There was a time when Memorial Stadium in Lincoln was considered not only one of the 20 toughest, but likely one of the 5 toughest.
The Huskers haven’t been able to keep that going, and the teams that are on that list are even tougher medicine. Of the 20, six come from the Big Ten. Ohio State (No. 2), Penn State (No. 3), Oregon (No. 7), Michigan (No. 12), Washington (No. 15), Indiana (No. 17), and Iowa (No. 19) are all on the list.
Washington and Iowa have got to be the real slap in the face, considering there was a time when Husky Stadium and Kinnick wouldn’t be in the Top 50. Certainly, they wouldn’t have been ranked ahead of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. We don’t even have to talk about Indiana being in the Top 20 after two good seasons, after decades of futility. This list is just another reminder that Matt Rhule has his work very much cut out for him.
