Residents blame clogged drains for Memphis flooding

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The results from Monday’s rain caused more than just puddles; there was also high water under bridges, stalled cars, damage to homes and property, and flooding on major roadways.

WREG’s Brayel Brown spoke with residents who say the solution to the flooding could start with the city resolving the issue of debris in drains.

“It was a lot, it was a lot. The day before, it was a lot. We had quite a bit of rain,” said Cheryl Wooley, a resident. “They really need to focus on the older areas of the city because the underground pipe system is rusted in many places.”
