Turlock man identified in Tuolumne River drowning near Hughson

Authorities have identified a swimmer who drowned in the Tuolumne River over the weekend near a popular recreation area in Hughson as James Cagle, 44, of Turlock.

Investigators believe the death was an accident after Cagle entered the water Saturday afternoon at Fox Grove Fishing Access and disappeared, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

According to sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. Nathan Crain, Cagle was at the park with friends when he told them he planned to walk across the water. He subsequently fell into the river and disappeared…
