San Francisco ABC affiliate KGO-TV at risk of losing FCC license

A shakeup may be coming soon to San Francisco’s airwaves. KGO-TV, ABC’s channel 7 news affiliate, posted a call to action Monday asking viewers to write to the Federal Communications Commission to ensure the station’s broadcast license isn’t revoked. Its renewal hearings were originally set to happen in 2028 but have been pushed up.

“ABC7 has proudly served the Bay Area for more than 75 years. Now the FCC is questioning our commitment to viewers by threatening to take us off the air,” the statement said. The post included a link and QR code that directed readers to the FCC website to file a comment in support of the station by July 29. ABC daytime talk show “The View” also released a call to action to its viewers requesting a similar show of support, by July 6.

In addition to KGO-TV, seven other ABC stations have had their licenses put up for renewal in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, Raleigh-Durham and Fresno, as reported by Deadline…
