FALL RIVER (WBSM) — A Fall River man has been sentenced to up to a decade in prison after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in his third trial for the crime.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced that Scott Rodrigues, 52, was convicted on June 15 after a third jury trial in Fall River Superior Court. He was sentenced to serve eight to 10 years in state prison.
The Commonwealth had recommended a state prison sentence of 12 to 15 years.
Details of the Fatal Albion Street Assault
The charge dates back to October 1, 2017, when Rodrigues and co-defendant Mendi Perry were at a house on Albion Street in Fall River. After they left the house, they encountered the victim, Dennis Cousineau, who lived across the street. According to the D.A.’s Office, both Rodrigues and Perry were high on drugs and Cousineau was drunk.
Neighbors Witness Shocking Street Beating
A neighbor heard a loud bang at the intersection of Albion Street and Bedford Street, and when she went to her window, she heard Rodrigues and Cousineau arguing. She also saw Rodrigues take a swing at Cousineau, knocking him to the ground. While on the ground, Rodrigues screamed at him that he should have minded his own business, and told Cousineau to leave them alone.

The neighbor reported seeing Rodrigues punching and kicking Cousineau while he was on the ground. Another neighbor saw both Rodrigues and Perry kicking him. One neighbor yelled for them to stop, and Perry told the neighbor they would be next…
