Eaglet born in Western N.Y. this year takes flight

The sole surviving eaglet that was born this year at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge has taken flight for the first time.

Volunteers announced that its name is Skanon, a name with Seneca roots.

The eaglet was in one of three eggs laid in late February, all of which hatched in April. Sadly, two of the three eaglets didn’t make it. One of the eaglets died on April 6 and the second on April 12, according to the wildlife refuge…
