Syracuse, N.Y. — After nearly a year of waiting, hundreds of Onondaga County families will be able to get almost all of their child-care costs paid by the county.
Onondaga County announced today it is ending a waitlist it started a year ago for its Child Care Assistance Program, saying new funding will allow it to help more families. There are 447 families on the list.
The program offers child-care subsidies to families with incomes as high as $153,770 (for a family of six). The county program closed to middle-income families a year ago after the state expanded the eligibility, but did not increase funding…
