TOLEDO, Ohio — An 18-year-old man accused of shooting a student inside a downtown charter school earlier this year appeared in court Tuesday morning for a bond hearing, where a detective revealed a dispute over a stolen firearm may have motivated the attack.
A Toledo Police detective testified during the hearing in Lucas County Common Pleas Court, saying that Glass City Academy administrators identified Vashawn Dixon Jr. as the suspect using surveillance video.
The detective claimed that Dixon and the victim, who were both students at the school, had an ongoing dispute involving a stolen gun, and said investigators used search warrants to track Dixon’s location throughout the day of the shooting.
