Owners, employee of mental health clinic charged in $951,000 Medicaid fraud scheme

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Three individuals have been charged after allegedly submitting over $951,000 in false claims to Utah Medicaid while claiming to be providing drug treatment sessions to homeless individuals and parolees.

Johnny Antanio Hankston and Jalon Hankston are co-owners of Second Chance Family Services, located in Salt Lake County. According to court documents, the Hankstons advertised rent-free housing to parolees, homeless individuals, and others dealing with substance use disorders.

In exchange, clients would provide the clinic with their Medicaid information. Allegedly, the Hankstons and co-defendant Johnny Leonel Tellez would use that information to bill the state for therapy and drug treatment sessions…
