New SF parking app reveals the secrets of street sweeping enforcers

Trying to park a car in San Francisco can feel like you’re navigating a byzantine maze of permits, time limits and street sweeping hours. And if you’re not careful, it’s easy to rack up a few tickets. Just ask Alejandro Vizio, a Haight-Ashbury resident who amassed a truly incredible amount in parking tickets.

“Between me and my girlfriend, we got like $2,000 of tickets,” Vizio told SFGATE via phone.

That led him to do something about the problem. Vizio moved to San Francisco from Argentina 10 years ago to work as a front-end web developer, so he applied his design skills (and a lot of back-end help from Claude) to create a new web app called Curb that aims to be a comprehensive resource for navigating San Francisco parking. Vizio’s massive amount in fines is partly due to a logistical hurdle that keeps him from getting a neighborhood parking permit, but then there’s also the dreaded weekly street sweeping, which inspired the most useful element of the app…
