LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock City Council unanimously approved a $324,140 contract with an Austin-based company to collect data about the condition of Lubbock roadways.
The company, Road Asset Services, will drive every street in Lubbock—about 1,600 miles according to the city—and measure any cracks, holes or roughness to help determine needs for maintenance or repairs.
“It’ll detect cracks up to a millimeter. Going down the road, it’s hard to see for a naked eye,” said Tim Merritt, director of street maintenance. “So at least this will give us an ability to see what’s actually out there.”…
