WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — While D.C. is known for its national monuments like the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol building and the White House, there are lesser-known locations that still provide deep insight into the District’s culture.

Colorful murals in everyday spaces were painted to celebrate the “local culture, history and creativity.” The murals in Downtown D.C. can be found as you wander the streets.
The 2026 mural depicts Mabel Ping-Hua Lee, a Chinese American suffragist and community leader. Painted by artist Jeff Huntington, the artwork was done in partnership with the 1882 Foundation and is located in Chinatown on H Street.
According to Downtown DC, it “stands as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for representation, inclusion, and equal rights.”
