City adds portable toilets and hand-washing stations near Rivanna River encampment

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville has added new resources near an unhoused encampment along the Rivanna River, installing portable toilets, a medium-sized dumpster and hand-washing stations along the trail.

Afton Schneider, director of communications and public engagement for Charlottesville, said the city is looking for a long-term solution, but this is an attempt to keep the area clean.

“Obviously, we’re looking for different arrangements for the people who are currently staying on the trail,” Schneider said. “But while they are staying there, we want to make sure that public safety and health is at the forefront of everything we do.”…
