Iconic Alabama dive bar set for major change soon: ‘Been a fun ride’

First off, no, Tip Top Café is not shutting down again already. But plans are for the legendary music bar in Huntsville, Alabama to undergo a change in operators/ownership — less than six months into Tip Top’s reboot that finally launched this year after being in the works for 10 years.

During its late ‘80s/early ‘90s prime, Tip Top had shows by now-famous bands like Goo Goo Dolls and Widespread Panic on the way up. Roots music legends like Bo Diddley too. Also, regionally popular bands like Storm Orphans and Blues Old Stand, and local acts like Microwave Dave & The Nukes and Trip To Argentina.

Housed in a humble cinderblock building, the place drew a glorious mix of revelers ranging from punk rockers to preppies to lawyers.
