Baton Rouge shooting case advances after victim’s ‘dying declaration’ names suspect

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Charges are moving forward against a Baton Rouge man accused of attempted murder while out on bond in a separate attempted double-murder case.

The case will be heard in the 19th Judicial District Court after the shooting victim identified Keontae Varnado as the person who shot him in what police described as a “dying declaration.”

The victim survived, but Baton Rouge police wrote that the victim believed he was dying and used what he thought would be his last words to name Varnado, 18, as the gunman…
