Editor’s note: This is part 2 of 2 concerning Monday’s review of the wildfire response and ongoing recovery in Potter County, where residents spoke about their concerns and frustrations.
The Potter County Commissioners’ Court, along with community members, wildfire survivors and others in the packed room, heard an update Monday, June 22 regarding the emergency reponse before and after the Stinky Fire ravaged Bishop Hill Estates last month.
After they heard from Max Dunlap, who was speaking at Tuesday’s meeting as the Potter County emergency management coordinator; Megan Eikner, an agent with the Potter County Extension Office; and Janell Evans, director for 2-1-1 Texas Panhandle United Way helpline and also the chairperson for the Texas Panhandle VOAD; residents and others spoke up during public comments about the problems they had encountered and the concerns they still had.
Public comments bring up deficiencies in system
During public comments, one of the residents in the affected area, Connie Danner, said that she was frustrated by trying to find out someone who would take responsibility for the disaster and not pass the buck.
