ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A man from Champaign, Illinois, admitted in court on Wednesday to stealing checks out of mailboxes around St. Louis.
Isaiah W. Douglas, 24, of Champaign, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and one count of possession of stolen mail matter.
According to court documents, Douglas would open unauthorized bank accounts under the business names on the stolen checks. Douglas admitted that he and his co-conspirators intended to cause a loss of at least $581,123, based on the value of the stolen checks that were deposited and those recovered by police…
