Cumberland County Pays $650K To End Legal Fight Over Scrapped Event Center

Cumberland County commissioners approved a $650,000 settlement with EwingCole to close out a lawsuit over unpaid fees. According to The Fayetteville Observer, the architectural firm had sued for $1.32 million, claiming breach of contract after officials halted the downtown Fayetteville project.

The board voted 7-0 back on June 15. Court records show the agreement includes no admission of wrongdoing by either side.

EwingCole Inc., based in Pennsylvania with offices in Raleigh, signed a contract with the county in November 2022. They were hired to provide architectural and engineering services for the downtown Crown Event Center project at $6.4 million plus $135,500 in reimbursable expenses, per the report…
