RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Property owners throughout Rutherford County are receiving new property assessment notices in the mail. Overall, values grew by more than $29 billion across the county since the last assessment in 2022, but that doesn’t necessarily mean every resident will automatically pay more in property taxes.
“A third of the properties are going to go up… a third are going to stay about the same, and a third are going to drop… That’s the statistics involved with the taxes,” Rutherford County Property Assessor Rob Mitchell told News 2.
Mitchell was discussing the effects of Tennessee’s certified revenue-neutral tax rate. This means when property values rise significantly across a county, state law requires the tax rate to be adjusted downward so local governments can’t use it as a backdoor way to increase tax revenue…
