MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Students in Bishop State Community College’s new All Hands on Deck Maritime Boot Camp received their first paychecks Thursday, marking a milestone in a program designed to create a pipeline of skilled workers for Alabama’s shipbuilding industry.
The first cohort includes 41 students earning $100 a day for attending the eight-week program. Students gain real-world experience while learning skills that lead directly to employment.
