TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Recent rain has helped bring some of the area out of the drought that has been going on since September last year.
Exceptional Drought
The region fell into an exceptional (D4) drought in November after an extremely dry start to fall, which led to the 3rd driest September on record for Tallahassee and the 4th driest on record for Valdosta, Apalachicola and Marianna. January, February, March and April all saw below-average rainfall. This led to a rainfall deficit at ALL of our reporting stations across North Florida and South Georgia for 2026.
May and June rain
The weather pattern became more active in May and June as several cold fronts brought thunderstorms and heavy rain for most of South Georgia and the Inland Big Bend counties.
