Long-vacant historic River Walk buildings facing foreclosure

Deteriorating, long-vacant historic buildings perched on a busy stretch of the San Antonio River Walk are scheduled to be sold at a foreclosure auction next month, but a representative for the investors who own them said plans to remake them are moving forward.

Soledad House LLC bought the Book Building along East Houston street and structures behind it in 2016, with plans for a $36 million renovation including a hotel and restaurants. The company borrowed $3.6 million from First United Bank and Trust Co. in 2020 but recently defaulted on the loan, prompting the lender to seek to foreclose and sell the property at Bexar County’s July 7 auction, according to a notice.
