Wave Of Airbag Thefts, Auto Thefts, Carjacking Arrest Included in June 24 Crime Summary

Montgomery County Police have released their daily summary of reported calls for service from June 24, 2026, highlighting a series of overnight auto thefts and thefts from vehicles, including another wave of airbag thefts across the county. The incidents span multiple police districts and do not represent every call for service received that day.

The 1st District, which covers Rockville, North Bethesda and surrounding areas, reported a motorcycle stolen overnight from a parking lot in the 13000 block of Twinbrook Parkway. Officers also documented a vehicle stolen from a driveway in the 9400 block of Turnberry Drive. The district also experienced numerous overnight airbag thefts, with windows smashed at locations including Franklin Street, Wheatey Street, Everett Street, Dupont Avenue, Perry Avenue, Edgefield Road, Thornwood Road, Saul Road, Wildwood Road and Dresden Street. In a separate incident, a vehicle in the 8600 block of 16th Street was found with all four tires stolen.

The 3rd District, which serves Silver Spring, Takoma Park and nearby communities, reported two overnight vehicle thefts from the 14000 block of Castle Boulevard and the 12000 block of Plum Orchard Drive. Officers also recovered a stolen vehicle in the 1600 block of Parham Place after it had been taken by breaking a window, leading to one arrest. Another arrest was made following a carjacking attempt in the 800 block of Ellsworth Drive. According to police, a suspect entered a vehicle in a parking lot and attempted to drive away. The owner confronted the suspect, and during the struggle the vehicle crashed into another car. Bystanders helped pull the suspect from the vehicle before officers arrested them nearby…
