INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WPTA) – Derek Roberts received his first heart transplant when he was just days old. Now, 35 years later, he is waiting for his second.
Roberts was born with a serious heart condition. Just days into his life, his mother Sandra took him to the hospital. There doctors discovered his heart rate was dangerously elevated and diagonsed the infant with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
They also shared the news with Sandra, Derek needed a new heart.
“They put him on a donor list, and nine hours later, he received a heart,” Sandra Roberts said…
