PTSD ‘changes your identity,’ Army veteran says

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — June is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) awareness month and a local veteran sat down with WSAV Thursday to share his story.

Retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant James Collins shared his personal journey with deployment related trauma. He said he didn’t always think about enlisting but he made the decision to join after 9/11.

“I felt like I had an obligation to serve the country, in that time of need, in that time of terrorism,” Collins said. “I joined with the intention of going to war and that’s what happened.”…
