East Baton Rouge Parish voters to decide on senior citizen tax renewal

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — East Baton Rouge Parish voters will decide whether to renew a property tax that funds programs and services for senior citizens on June 27.

The parishwide proposition asks voters to keep the current 2-mill property tax. This would last for 10 years, starting in 2027 and ending in 2036.

If approved, the renewal is expected to generate $12.5 million each year. The proposition would not create a new property tax but would continue the current tax that supports the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging, according to the Secretary of State’s website…
