SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — “There’s a lot of psychological components to [this job],” ER Nurse Christine Anderson says.
Anderson works at Mercy Springfield, just one health system seeing a spike in violence against health care workers.
“We deal with a lot of verbal and physical abuse in the ER, specifically in health care in general. It is very psychologically damaging. It does take a toll on you over time. There’s a lot of PTSD of coming back to work after a physical incident,” Anderson said. “I’ve seen a lot of nurses burnout over the years I’ve been here of just dealing with that on a day to day basis.”…
