‘It could’ve been very dangerous’: Okmulgee County repairs roads after heavy rain

OKMULGEE COUNTY, Okla. – Heavy rainfall has caused widespread damage to roads across Okmulgee County, forcing county crews to make emergency repairs after repeated rounds of storms.

One of the most significant washouts occurred on Bristlecone Road, where floodwaters carved out a hole about 5 feet deep beneath the roadway. Although the pavement appeared intact, officials said the road had become a dangerous hazard for anyone traveling through the area.

Resident Bill Lester drove through the area during the heavy rain and said visibility was nearly impossible.

“I couldn’t see a thing. It was stupid to be out driving,” Lester said…
