The View Co-Host Tells Larry David Not to Let Trump Steal His Pride

During a recent episode of The View, co-hosts Sarah Haines, Joy Behar, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah addressed comedian Larry David’s harsh critique of President Donald Trump’s UFC Freedom 250 event, which took place on June 14, coinciding with Trump’s 80th birthday.

The UFC Freedom 250 faced widespread criticism both before and after the event. Larry David, 78, expressed his disapproval during the Hollywood premiere of his HBO show, Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America, telling Variety that the event was “a travesty” and “embarrassing,” adding, “I was embarrassed to be an American.”

The View’s hosts played a clip from Larry’s interview and discussed his remarks. Sarah Haines responded directly to Larry’s feelings of embarrassment, urging him not to let Trump’s actions diminish his pride in the country.

“Don’t give Trump that power,” she said. “Trump is here for eight years out of 250.

That’s just a blip in time. I refuse to hand over my patriotism and my pride for this country.”

Sarah emphasized that Trump does not represent all Americans on the global stage, saying, “He just happens to be the current president, and that’s it.” Ana Navarro agreed, acknowledging that one can feel “very embarrassed, mortified, and horrified” by Trump’s behavior, but Sarah clarified, “By Donald Trump, not the country.”

Sunny Hostin provided additional context, explaining that Larry’s embarrassment was directed at Trump and the event itself-not America. She described the UFC event as “tacky” and “trashy,” citing an incident where a fighter used a slur against former First Lady Michelle Obama. Sunny also highlighted that a majority of adults across 36 nations surveyed expressed zero confidence in Trump, noting that America’s global standing has suffered under his leadership.

While Sunny stopped short of saying she was embarrassed to be American, she was clear about her feelings toward the administration. “I am embarrassed by Donald Trump and absolutely embarrassed about what happened on the White House lawn,” she declared.

The conversation on The View underscored a common sentiment: frustration with the current administration does not equate to a loss of faith in the country as a whole.
