Scuba Church: A deep down way to minister

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (KT) – Pastor David Tucker knows the gospel can reach people anywhere.

That belief led him to dive headfirst — or perhaps fins first — into a unique ministry he calls Scuba Church, held at a spring-fed quarry that was once abandoned but has since become a popular scuba diving training destination.

Tucker said the idea began when Chuck Kincaid, a deacon at Second Baptist Church Hopkinsville, told him about the opportunity to connect with the thousands of divers who visit the quarry each year.

To earn scuba certification, divers must complete dives of up to 120 feet. Since the quarry reaches depths of about 130 feet, it has become an ideal training location, hosting certification classes throughout the summer…
