Texas A&M fans everywhere were disappointed, if not surprised, when the nation’s top cornerback, John Meredith, committed to the Texas Longhorns last week. Meredith had been a heavy Aggie lean for a long time, but over this past spring, the Longhorns made a move to take the lead in his recruitment.
The Aggies did what they could, getting Meredith back on campus a couple of times, to stem the tide, but when decision day came, Meredith ended up picking burnt orange rather than maroon. After the Aggies were the leader for such a long time, this was a bit of a bummer for many fans who had been following the recruitment.
It’s not hard to figure out exactly what happened here, of course— the Aggies are in the midst of building a historic recruiting class, and the Longhorns, psychologically unable to handle the number of Ls they were taking to the Aggies on the trail, committed every resource they had to landing this head-to-head win. You have to expect that kind of thing when facing off against Texas on the trail, and in this case, it worked out for them…
