ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The St. Louis Board of Aldermen on Friday approved a plan to require water meters on new construction and certain rehabilitation projects, a move city leaders say could produce more accurate billing and generate more revenue for the water department.
Under Board Bill 28, water meters would be required for new construction, rehabilitation projects that need a new water service line, and service line repairs when the work already involves excavation and replacement. The requirements apply only to new connections and rehab projects after the ordinance takes effect. It does not require retrofitting meters on existing service connections, except as specifically required by the ordinance.
