Greenwood School District budget approved with tax hike

The Greenwood School Board approved a 3 percent real estate tax increase for the 2026-27 school year June 15 after rejecting proposals for both 2 percent and 4 percent increases.

The decision followed an extended discussion among board members, administrators and residents about the district’s financial outlook, use of reserve funds and the effect of higher taxes on property owners.

The preliminary budget presented on the agenda totaled $19.33 million and initially called for a 2 percent increase for Perry County taxpayers. That proposal would have set the Perry County rate at 9 mills, an increase of 0.18 mills. The corresponding Juniata County rate would have increased 1.13 percent to 148.51 mills…
