Nashville mother fights proposed liability amendment after daughter’s alleged Uber assault

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Nashville mother whose daughter was allegedly sexually assaulted during an Uber ride says her family’s fight has grown beyond a federal lawsuit and into a battle over legislation she believes could impact future victims.

Jeanne Fain is urging Congress to reject the proposed Fong Amendment, a provision included in the Build America 250 Act that she and her attorney argue would make it harder for people harmed during rideshare trips to hold companies like Uber accountable in court.

The amendment comes as Fain’s family is already pursuing a federal lawsuit against Uber over what they say happened to her 27-year-old daughter during an October 2025 ride.
