Delayed retail hub project in the Volcano Mesa in Albuquerque moves forward

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A proposed retail hub in Albuquerque’s West Mesa has faced setbacks due to neighbor opposition. Now, after years of delays, the developer is restarting the project.

Near the intersection of Paseo and Kimmick, between Unser and Golf Course on the West Mesa, a project is in the works to develop the land into a retail hub, called The Glyphs. “To be a mixed use center that has a mix of, you know, we had anticipated some medical offices, a small grocer, some retail, small local commercial and an early childhood learning center is was the plan for the original Glyphs,” said Angela Piarowski, CEO for Modulus Architects and Land Use Planning.

The 65,000 square foot development was first announced in 2024. Angela Piarowski, the CEO for Modulus Architects, said that they’ve seen broad support for the project, which will bring more amenities to the area, but she said that a group opposed to the project, the Westside Coalition of Neighborhood Associations, caused it to stall. “They have continued to appeal nearly every application that we’ve made on this project, citing many different reasons. You know, they don’t agree with the city’s process. They haven’t agreed with our planning action,” said Piarowski…
