Akron, Canton to activate cooling centers as heat, humidity arrive

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — As a heat dome moves east into northern Ohio this week, local communities are activating cooling centers for residents in need.

What to know about this week’s ‘heat dome’

The Fox 8 weather team is forecasting highs at or just above 90 degrees almost every day this week, and high humidity levels will put heat indices above 100 degrees at times during the hottest time of day.

In Akron, those who need a place to escape the heat can head to Summit Lake Community Center, at 380 W. Crosier Street, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on the following days:

  • Tuesday, June 30
  • Wednesday, July 1
  • Thursday, July 2
