Northwest Austin Street Turned Firing Line In 40-Shot Killing

A late-night encounter on a quiet stretch of northwest Austin ended in a barrage of gunfire, and now a newly unsealed affidavit is filling in the brutal details.

Investigators say a Travis County man and at least one other shooter opened fire on 35-year-old Joshua Williams in early April, hitting him more than 40 times. Officers found Williams with multiple gunshot wounds in the 10900 block of Brazoria Lane and pronounced him dead at 1:09 a.m. Court records unsealed Friday lay out how detectives say they pieced the case together.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers were dispatched just after 12:40 a.m. on April 3 for reports of shots fired. Homicide detectives and crime-scene specialists processed the area and immediately asked neighbors to share any footage recorded between 11:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. to help track whoever was behind the gunfire…
