Detroit Free Press: Removing and Replacing Toxic Dirt At One Detroit Home Alone to Cost Taxpayers $93,000

It’s a given that replacing toxic dirt at demolition sites in Detroit is going to be costly for taxpayers. But the latest price tag for a single home may be reason for alarm.

Violet Ikonomova of the Detroit Free Press reports that it cost taxpayers $22,500 to demolish a house at 4551 25th St. two years ago. Now, it’s expected to cost the city an additional $93,000 to remove and replace the toxic dirt at the site.
