New apartment plans threaten local businesses in East Lansing

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The future of the Bailey Street parking lot in East Lansing is now up in the air after city officials recommended a plan to turn public spaces into private ones. Earlier this year, the Tareen Development Partners pitched a 13-story apartment complex with two stories of parking to the East Lansing City Council.

However, just this past Wednesday, plans seem to have changed, as they requested approval from the East Lansing Planning Commission for new building plans. The new plans are for a 10-story apartment complex that eliminates all public spaces in favor of private tenant spots, which was supported by the Planning Commission.

This has raised many concerns for local businesses on the block, who need parking for their customers. Two business owners voiced their concerns to 6 News.
