Summer Jerk Fest returns to Myrtle Beach for its 5th year

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The sounds of reggae music and the smell of jerk chicken on the grill filled Chapin Park Sunday as the community gathered for a celebration of Caribbean culture.

The Summer Jerk Fest, now in its fifth year, was an idea of Lisa Coombs, a local restaurant owner whose husband is from Jamaica.

“He kind of got melancholy during the wintertime, and he was like, ‘There’s just nothing here for people from the island,’” Coombs said. “And I said, ‘Well, we can start something.’”…
