Pinpoint Weather: Heat and humidity build this week

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Increasing heat and humidity will be the main focus for the week across Southwest and Central Virginia.

Some areas of morning fog are possible on Monday. Foggy conditions should wrap up by the mid-to-late morning hours, giving way to a mix of sun and clouds. Afternoon highs will be in the 80s. While a few spotty showers or storms may develop along the Blue Ridge during the late afternoon, most will stay dry.

For the week ahead, an upper-level ridge of high pressure will build and center itself over the Mid-Atlantic by Friday. This will result in increased heat and humidity. For Tuesday, afternoon temperatures will rise into the upper 80s and lower 90s. Wednesday through Saturday will be hotter, with highs in the 90s to near 100. Heat index values in the triple digits are possible in parts of the Roanoke Valley, Central Virginia, and Southside.

Take precautions to prepare for the heat ahead. Check your air conditioners to ensure they’re working properly. It’s important to stay cool, hydrated, and safe. If you’re working outside, take frequent breaks in the shade or in an air-conditioned area. Never leave children or pets inside vehicles.

Rain chances will remain low for much of the week, although spotty showers and storms could still pop up each afternoon. While the severe risk is low, isolated storms could produce heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

The 4th of July weekend looks to be hot and muggy, with isolated afternoon showers and storms possible each day…
