Last week may have marked the official start of summer, but I’m declaring today the unofficial start as summer-like heat has finally returned to the Ozarks.
If you spent any time outside today, you certainly felt it. High temperatures climbed into the 90s, while heat index values topped 100 degrees in several locations. Whether you enjoy the heat or not, it’s here to stay for a while.
Throughout the upcoming week, expect afternoon highs in the lower to middle 90s, with heat index values ranging from 100 to 105 degrees each day.
We’ll also see plenty of sunshine. Clouds will be few and far between, and rain chances will remain nearly nonexistent as a strong heat dome settles over the region, trapping the hot air and keeping moisture at bay.
The heat dome will begin to weaken toward the end of the week, allowing for a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms around the Fourth of July weekend. That said, Independence Day is still looking mainly dry, with temperatures remaining well above average and the heat continuing to be the biggest weather story…
