LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A round of thunderstorms is expected to develop late Monday afternoon across the South Plains especially for our northwestern region, with strong wind gusts posing the primary threat to the region.
A weak dryline positioned across the western South Plains into the northwest will serve as the focal point for storm development. Any storms that develop will be short-lived but could still produce gusty winds around 45 to 50 mph.
The potential for severe weather is low, however, a severe thunderstorm or two with up to quarter-size hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph cannot be ruled out.
What to expect Monday
Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across western portions of the Caprock before potentially expanding eastward Monday afternoon through the evening. Storms are expected to clear out of the area before midnight.
Elevated thunderstorms could produce gusty outflow winds. Strong downbursts are also possible…
